Eden, Utah — It’s been a busy past few years at Powder Mountain, and the profound changes are expected to continue this summer and into 2027.

Yesterday, Powder Mountain detailed its upgrades for its summer activities, along with updates on its lifts. Two lifts on the public side will be installed this offseason, one lift will be removed next summer, while another planned public lift project is being reevaluated. Here’s a rundown of what’s going on this summer and next at Powder Mountain.

DMI Lift & Sundown

Work is well underway on the new DMI terrain expansion and new chairlift. The new terrain pod will be home to over 1,000 acres of advanced and expert terrain. It will be serviced by a fixed-grip chairlift from SkyTrac. It’s among the steepest lifts SkyTrac has ever constructed. Last week, the lift towers were installed.

The other lift upgrade will be the replacement of the Sundown quad chairlift with a new detachable quad chairlift. A new 15k square foot base lodge at Sundown is expected to break ground this summer and open during the 2027-28 season.

Doodle

The old Sundown quad chairlift will be used to create a new beginner area. Called Doodle, this new chairlift was originally envisioned in the Sundown terrain pod. However, they are now considering a new location, which means it may not open for the 2026-27 season.

Sunrise

Perhaps the most surprising announcement was regarding the over-30-year-old Poma surface lift. This upcoming winter will be the final season for the Sunrise lift. The plan is to remove it and make the terrain it accessed hike-only. The reasoning for the decision is that they intend to use the lift area for real estate development, which is essential for funding the public side. I will say that the bright side of this move is that Powder has added lifts to areas that used to be hike-to terrain in recent years, and this plan does give skiers who like to hike more areas to explore.

Summer Trails

Because Powder Mountain is an active construction zone, only a portion of the mountain will be open to hikers and bikers this summer. Starting on June 11th, the Paper Airplane and Woody’s World trails will open up. The Sidewinder, East Brim, and Art Loop trails will open later in the summer. Additionally, Powder Mountain plans to spend $1 million on 16.9 miles of new public trails.

Interestingly, the blog post doesn’t mention anything about the lift-served mountain biking park. The downhill mountain open park was only open for two summers (2022 and 2023).
