The U.S. Wildland Fire Service is urging drone pilots of all types, whether they’re professional or recreational, to avoid flying drones near wildfires. This is important year round, but it’s an especially important reminder as more and more wildfires pop up around the country.

Unauthorized drones can but wildland firefighters and aviation crews at risk, oftentimes forcing firefighting aircraft to stop operations. These delays can have a serious impact on response efforts allowing fires to grow without much restriction.

Nobody wants to be responsible for the growth of a wildfire, so if you’re near a wildland fire, keep your drone on the ground. If you are. a drone pilot, make sure you’re aware of the rules and regulations surrounding your device before taking off.
