Congratulations are in order for Bartek Ziemski as the Polish climber just successfully skied down Mt Everest without supplementary oxygen or personal Sherpa support.
Ziemski snuck out of basecamp early this morning and reached the summit at around 9:20 am Nepal time. It was standing on the top of the world (elevation 29,031 feet) where he clipped into his skis and started to carve his way down the tallest mountain in the world. Ziemski is only the second person in history to complete a ski descent of Everest.
Skiing down Everest is obviously a monumental feather to stick one’s cap but Ziemski accomplishment is even more remarkable considering he also skied down Lhotse (elevation 27,940 feet) last week. On Lhotse he was also without supplemental oxygen, fixed ropes or support. All told, Ziemski has climbed and skied eight 8,000 meter peaks this spring season. Absolutely next level. Cheers!
