Sundance, Utah Not many ski resorts have changed more over the past several years than Sundance Mountain Resort.

Since its sale from Robert Redford to Broadreach Capital Partners and Cedar Capital Partners in 2020, many big upgrades have been made. This has included their first high-speed chairlift, a new connector lift between the two mountains, the Wildwood terrain expansion and lift, building an outdoor spa, the opening of the Inn at Sundance, a new base lodge at Mountain Camp, preserving much of the property from future development, expanding their hiking and biking trails, and creating new real estate developments. Whew, that was a lot of typing.

However, one of the biggest upgrades in Sundance’s history is just down the road.

Work is underway on a massive terrain expansion. Last offseason saw the construction of 9 new trails, adding 60 new acres of terrain. Arguably, the highlight of last season’s trail additions was Storyteller, a thigh-burning ridge run. This upcoming winter will feature 6 new trails, 105 additional skiable acres, and a new lift.

Last Friday, Sundance Mountain Resort provided its first construction update on the Electric Horseman chairlift. The name of the chairlifts is in honor of one of Redford’s most iconic films: The Electric Horseman. This detachable high-speed quad chairlift will start next to the Sidewinder trail and end near the summit and the top of Red’s lift. It will have an impressive vertical rise of 1,850 feet, giving a new lapable lift for tenured skiers and riders. The Horseman will have a ride time of around six minutes.

“The addition of the Electric Horseman Express will transform how our guests experience the back mountain, allowing skiers and riders to lap all of the new and existing terrain in a single high-speed lift ride,” said Czar Johnson, Chief Operating Officer of Sundance Mountain Resort. “The expanded acreage gives locals even more reason to choose Sundance Resort for their season pass, and provides our traveling guests enough variety to make our new Inn at Sundance their home base for exploration.”

So far, work is focused on assembling the parts in their staging zone. This zone is situated at the Mountain Camp base area. We’ll likely have more updates on the actual construction in the weeks ahead.

The Electric Horseman is scheduled to premiere during the 2026-27 ski season.
