LINCOLN, New HampshireLoon Mountain Resort will open its Bike Park for Memorial Day weekend, and for riders new to downhill mountain biking, the resort is offering a free introductory lesson program called First Turn.

First Turn is a complimentary 30-minute clinic aimed at beginners and those with limited trail experience. The program covers the fundamentals of downhill riding and is designed to give first-timers enough footing to tackle the park’s trails with confidence.

Dan Tenorio, Loon’s Bike Shop Manager noted that most participants in the First Turn program already know how to ride a bike but are looking for guidance on making the transition to lift-served, downhill terrain. In 2025, more than 100 guests took part in the program.

No advance registration is needed. Lessons run on a walk-up basis throughout the day. Participants are required to have a front-suspension bike and a helmet, though rentals are available on site for those without their own gear.

For riders looking for a more complete introduction, Loon also offers its Downhill Discovery package, which bundles a two-hour lift ticket, equipment rental, and a lesson, with pricing starting at $79.

Loon’s Bike Park operates with lift-served access via the high-speed Kancamagus 8 chairlift, with trails running through the White Mountain National Forest. The park attracts riders from across New England during the summer and fall seasons. More information on lesson options is available at loonmtn.com.
