The North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park will reopen for the 2026 season this Friday, May 15th, at 6am, marking the return of public access to one of the park’s most remote and scenic destinations.

Visitors should plan carefully before making the trip. The park is continuing recovery and restoration efforts, and the 2026 season will offer a scaled-back experience focused primarily on day use and limited backcountry access. Select scenic drives, viewpoints, and trails will be available, but services are significantly reduced compared to past seasons.

Most critically, potable water will not be available on the North Rim. Visitors must bring enough water for their entire stay.

Two services will operate during the season. A general store adjacent to the campground will be open daily from May 15th through September 7th, running from 9am to 4pm and stocking dry goods. A fuel station will also be available during that same period, offering 24-hour self-serve pay-at-the-pump gas and diesel.

The North Rim Campground does not currently have a reopening date. Park officials say more information will be released as it becomes available.

On the trail side, the entire North Kaibab Trail will reopen May 15th alongside the rim itself. The trail will be accessible to both day hikers and permitted backcountry users.

The North Rim typically draws visitors seeking a quieter alternative to the park’s more heavily trafficked South Rim. Given the reduced services this season, anyone planning a visit should prepare accordingly and check the National Park Service website for updates before heading out.
