Scooter stunt leads to transformer explosion.

Extreme sports athlete Ryan Bean learned the hard way to never mess around with public utility boxes after he jumped on one with an electric scooter, somehow managing to blow up one of the fuses in the process.

While we don’t know exactly what went wrong here, it seems pretty likely that a bump of that size (which didn’t appear to leave a dent in the overall structure) shouldn’t have caused the explosion. These guys probably uncovered an underlying issue, helping it to get fixed before it got even more destructive (though they probably shouldn’t have jumped on it at all…).

Not sure if Ryan and his squad faced any sort of fine or punishment for their actions, but either way huge props to them for sticking around until the police and power company showed up to get it fixed.

This box appears to be a pad mounted transformer, often referred to as a public utility box. They’re generally surrounded by underground cables that extend several directions, distributing power to nearby homes and businesses. Touching, climbing, or playing on these boxes can be very dangerous, and children should be kept away.
