Sugar Bowl Resort has released a new video tour of its Village Locker Room, giving skiers a closer look at one of the completed pieces of the California resort’s massive revitalization project.
Located beneath the Village Lodge terrace, the slopeside facility includes two-person and four-person seasonal lockers, built-in electric boot warmers, helmet storage, digital season-pass entry and private restrooms. Sugar Bowl describes the space as both gear storage and a gathering point for the resort’s community.
The locker room was constructed as part of the first phase of Sugar Bowl’s ongoing resort overhaul, which the independently owned ski area has described as a $100 million revitalization, the largest investment program in its history.
The newly released video gives skiers a much better look at what all that construction beneath the Village Lodge deck produced.
Built for Skiers Who Leave Their Gear at the Mountain
The biggest change is convenience.
Sugar Bowl’s two-person lockers have room for two to three pairs of skis, electric warmers for two pairs of boots and four helmet hooks. Four-person lockers can accommodate four to five pairs of skis and include warmers for four pairs of boots. Both use digital access tied to a Sugar Bowl season pass rather than requiring a separate padlock.
The locker room can be accessed from outside, from the Rathskeller and from downstairs inside the Village Lodge.
For the 2026-27 season, two-person Village Locker Room rentals start at $2,000, while four-person lockers are listed at $2,400.
Sugar Bowl is clearly positioning the facility toward skiers who spend a significant amount of time at the mountain and want to leave skis, boots, helmets and layers slopeside rather than hauling everything back and forth each day.
The resort also promotes the Village Locker Room as an amenity for guests staying at its 27-room Village Lodge, where the locker facility sits just steps from the snow.
The New Room Replaces Older Locker Facilities
The project is also part of a broader reshuffling of skier facilities around Sugar Bowl’s historic village.
Sugar Bowl says its Schule House and Gondola locker rooms were decommissioned after the 2025-26 season. Existing locker holders were given opportunities to move into the new Village Locker Room or other available facilities.
That makes the new room more than an added premium amenity. It is becoming one of the primary seasonal gear-storage locations in the Village.
Construction of the facility was underway during summer 2025, when Sugar Bowl tore out the old Village Lodge deck and began building the new locker area underneath.
The Locker Room Is Only One Piece of the Overhaul
Sugar Bowl’s current construction work is considerably larger than what is happening inside the Village Lodge.
The resort is now in the second phase of its revitalization program, with the biggest project being replacement of the Village Gondola.
Sugar Bowl’s original gondola opened in 1953, making the resort the first ski area on the West Coast to install one. The current project replaces the four-person system with a new eight-person Doppelmayr gondola while also rehabilitating the terminals and parking structure.
Unofficial Networks reported in August that construction on the new Village Gondola was nearing completion, with towers installed and terminal work well underway.
Other current projects include improvements to the Main Lodge, continued Village Lodge work, an expanded beginner area, a larger snow beach and additional improvements around Sugar Bowl Parks CA.
The resort has been careful to frame the redevelopment around preserving the character of its historic snowbound village rather than replacing it with a completely different base-area concept.
That is especially visible in the Village Lodge, where designers have incorporated details inspired by archival photographs and the building’s post-World War II appearance while adding modern skier amenities underneath and around it.
Sugar Bowl Is Targeting a Nov. 27 Opening
Sugar Bowl is currently targeting Friday, Nov. 27, for the start of its 2026-27 ski season, conditions permitting.
Unofficial Networks recently included Sugar Bowl in its rundown of California’s planned 2026-27 opening dates, with the Donner Summit resort currently aiming for the day after Thanksgiving.
By then, skiers should see substantially more than a new place to store their boots.
The Village Locker Room is one of the first finished examples of a redevelopment program that is changing much of Sugar Bowl’s base-area infrastructure while attempting to retain the character of one of California’s oldest ski resorts.
And for the skiers paying for a seasonal locker, at least the boots should be warm.
