Whistler Olympic Park in Whistler, British Columbia, is one of several areas around the world today that takes advantage of snow storage systems to ensure there’s enough snow for early-season training. Every spring, their groomers pile up a mountain of snow up to around 24 feet, covering it with a Snow Secure blanket to help it last until the fall.
Come early season, the blanket will be removed and the snow will be pushed to connect the biathlon stadium to the Day Lodge, creating more early-season terrain for the athletes and recreational skiers. The video below shows groomer Guy Si discussing the process of preservation.
