Tragic news out of Alaska where a heli-ski guide and outdoor instructor who was caught in an avalanche while working Wednesday in the northern Chugach Mountains died three days later.

Anchorage Daily News reports Dylan Lenzie was working as a heli-ski guide for Crown Mountain Guides in the West Bench area of Gannett Glacier, south of Knik Glacier, on Wednesday when he was caught by the avalanche.

Lenzie was found by another guide, extracted from the snow and flown in a helicopter to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center alive but succumbed to his injuries Saturday morning.

“Dylan was a friend, colleague, and fellow professional just hitting his stride in the Alaska Snow and Avalanche community. He was a confident, competent, and humble avalanche instructor, and guide with a natural ability to connect with students and clients in thoughtful and intelligent ways, sharing his passion for snowmachining and splitboarding in Alaska. His passing is a devastating loss to this community. Our deepest sympathies go out to Dylan’s family, friends, and coworkers.” -Chugach National Forest Avalanche Center

Crown Mountain Guides will share announcements regarding memorials, a GoFundMe, and a memorial service will be shared in the coming days. We offer our sincere condolences to all of his family and friends.
