YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyoming – Yellowstone National Park will officially open select entrances and roads for the 2026 summer season beginning at 8am on Friday, April 17th.
The North Entrance in Gardiner, Montana, and the West Entrance in West Yellowstone Montana, will both open on April 17th. Those openings will provide access to Mammoth Hot Springs, Lamar Valley, Norris Geyser Basin, Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, Old Faithful, and the Northeast Entrance (Silver Gate and Cooke City, Montana).
Additional roads throughout the park will open during May as long as weather and conditions permit. More detailed information on routes and directions are available here.
Yellowstone recommends a series of steps to prepare for a spring visit, including checking Current Conditions before arrival, bringing and wearing appropriate footwear and clothing for winter conditions, as many trails and boardwalks are still covered in snow, and expecting limited services throughout the spring season.
Road closures and delays of up to 30 minutes due to road improvement projects or other temporary travel restrictions are possible throughout the park without notice. Have flexible travel plans. Further details on preparing for a Yellowstone visit are available on the park website.
