There are a lot of epic ski and snowboard events throughout the year, including plenty of gnarly ones in the East, but when it comes to massive parties based around the winter sport nothing can quite compare to Red Bull Heavy Metal.
The single day snowboarding contest brings some of the most progressive rail riding in the world to the natural rails, drops, gaps, and banks of several iconic city locations. The event started int he early 2000s, but it took a break before being revived in 2022. Today, it’s the leading showcase is street snwoboarding.
For the 2026 season, Red Bull Heavy Metal was meant to feature two USA regional qualifiers sending one female and one male rider to the big event in Boston, but the Minneapolis event scheduled for January 17th was cancelled. The Pittsburg Heavy Metal still went down though. Boston, as the “finals”, was quite a show, bringing a truly massive crowd to the City Hall Plaza.
