The best way to learn fast is to have a great instructor. This wisened old ski instructor was giving skier Tiago Pestana a lesson on the best skiing stance in preparation for a test. To really demonstrate why having your skis slightly apart, rather than right next to each other, can be so valuable, the instructor gave Pestana a nice shove to the ground.

There are plenty of people who still like to keep their skis touching, primarily off-piste, but that’s generally considered more of an old school style. With modern shaped skis, around hip-width apart is usually the best, especially for carving at high speeds.
