British Columbia — It’s been a topsy-turvy winter for Fairmont Hot Springs Resort. Before the season started, there were reportedly several notable staff departures, raising questions about whether it would operate at all this winter. However, it is operating, albeit with some modifications compared to the typical season.
According to The Columbia Valley Pioneer, ski season began for Fairmont on January 9th, which was a couple of weeks later than usual. However, it opened with limited lifts and terrain. This was due to the chairlift failing inspection twice. Add in warmer-than-average temperatures and inconsistent snowfall, and it’s been frustrating among guests.
The chairlift finally opened on February 17th. Some guests were thrilled, while others said they wouldn’t renew their passes next year because of the delay.
“It’s great that the chair is open and the recent snow will help extend the season a bit, but for many the damage is done. The poor — or non existent — communication to pass holders has many of us questioning whether next year will be any better,” said Jonathan Large, a customer of the ski resort, on Facebook.
About Fairmont Hot Springs Resort
As the name implies, this resort is mostly known for its hot springs. However, there’s also a small ski area that’s on the property. The ski area features 14 trails, 3 lifts, and a vertical drop of 1,000 feet. There are also various lodging options. The resort is owned by Aldesta Hotel Group, which bought it in 2023.
While it’s not the biggest ski resort in BC, it will be interesting to see if its struggles continue into next season.
