Nelson, British Columbia — Whitewater Mountain Resort is one of Canada’s most underrated skiing destinations. Located on the Powder Highway, Whitewater has seen big investments in recent years, with a focus on terrain expansions. The replacement of the Raven chair with a quad that’s higher up the mountain allowed for two terrain expansions. The next expansion is focused on an area that’s long been out of bounds.
Over the past week, Whitewater Mountain Resort has shared two video updates on the improvements for the 2026-27 season.
The first update focused on the ski resort’s infrastructure. Updates include new bathrooms and extended generator coverage in the base area. Season passholders will receive new benefits, including buddy ticket discounts.
The Terrain
The second Real Talk update focused on improvements on the slopes.
The most notable project mentioned is a 190-acre (75 hectares) terrain expansion, giving skiers and riders more tree skiing to explore. The new Shortside expansion is situated between the Summit and Glory chairlifts. Two skiways will connect skiers to and from this terrain pod. Logging has cleared trees to create memorable skiing and riding.
Also notable is work done by a spider hoe, which has destroyed rocks on the Bonanza trail so that they can groom it with a snowpack of 100 cms, compared to roughly 120-150 cms needed beforehand. An excavator has created a bootpack area on Upper Powder Keg to help with avalanche mitigation and makes getting to Cache Basin easier. Trail crews helped clear out Tailings, the area between Bonanza and Paydirt, and Monkey Trees.
Lift maintenance projects were also a focus, including an improved offload ramp off Glory, which will lead to easier access to terrain.
Another notable change is to their operational schedule. With the end of Daylight Saving Time in B.C., Whitewater is moving its lift opening time by 30 minutes. Most lifts will start at 9:30 a.m., while the Glory chairlift will open (when conditions permit) at 9:45 a.m. The closing times will also likely be pushed back by half an hour.
