Sandpoint, Idaho — Change is afoot at Schweitzer Mountain Resort, which has seen more than $75 million in investments over the past five years. While there aren’t flashy upgrades coming this winter, there are still some solid additions.
Last week, Schweitzer Mountain Resort announced what’s new for the 2026-27 season. The improvements include food enhancements, new programs, and work on a new base area.
“We’re always looking for ways to make a day at Schweitzer even better, whether that means making it easier to learn to ski, adding a new place to grab breakfast or continuing to invest in the mountain,” said Tom Chasse, president and chief operating officer of Schweitzer. “There’s a lot happening this winter, but it all comes back to giving people more ways to enjoy Schweitzer.”
Dining is a focus. First is Schweitzer’s first food truck, which debuted this past summer. The Schwagon (great name) serves breakfast favorites and coffee. Admittedly, I wouldn’t recommend drinking coffee while skiing. At the Lakeview Lodge, Schweitzer is debuting a candy and ice cream shop.
The lodge is also introducing new programs. The Learn to Ski in 3 program will provide three days of lift tickets, lessons, and gear to new skiers and riders for $405. If you complete the program, you earn unlimited access to Schweitzer during March and April. Also being introduced is Private Night Skiing off the Basin Express, which includes private dining and an apres bar. At the Crow’s Bench, the Crow’s Bench Cellar Dinner offers groups of up to eight people a six-course supper. From Monday through Thursday, the Rowdy Grouse Elopement Package lets skiers and riders get married on the slopes with a group of up to 10 people.
The Future Of Schweitzer
The big project for the future is the Schweitzer Creek Village base area. Home to the Creekside Quad, this area will eventually have a new base area, with roughly 1,400 new parking spots. It will also include new dining, shopping, and ticketing options. Work has been ongoing this offseason, with the latest construction update featured below. They’re aiming to debut this area during the 2027-28 season, with continued additions to it in the years ahead.
The second change regards Schweitzer’s leadership. Earlier this month, Schweitzer President & COO Tom Chasse announced that this will be his final season as the ski resort’s leader. He helped the resort grow into a destination during his two decades there. During his tenure, he oversaw the construction of five new lifts, the summit lodge (Sky House), and modernized mountain infrastructure.
