Crews with the Boulder City Fire Department (BCFD) responded to a mutual aid request from the National Park Service after a hiker fell down a ravine at Gold Strike Canyon.

According to the fire department, Boulder City Dispatch received the mutual aid request at approximately 5:01pm on Wednesday, January 14th. The first BCFD unit arrived within 10 minutes, requesting additional assistance from Henderson Fire Department based on the initial location and the patient’s condition.

It took around 40 minutes for rescuers to access the patient located about 1.5 miles in the canyon. The patient was packaged for the hike out and brought to an area where they could be transported to a local hospital. The hike out took approximately 2 hours.

One firefighter was injured through the rescue, though they were brought to a hospital, evaluated, and released shortly after. The National Park Service, Henderson Fire Department, Community Ambulance, and Metro PD assisted in the operation.
