Farmington, Maine — One of the bigger New England lift projects is happening at a small ski area in Maine.
This offseason, work has been underway at Titcomb Mountain on replacing T-Bar (Lift 2) with a new one. Lift 2 was originally from Cannon Mountain, opening back in 1953. It was installed at Titcomb in 1973, making this a very old lift. The lift was vital for Titcomb’s family atmosphere, as it served a variety of trails.
The groundbreaking for the new T-Bar was held on August 30th. Since then, crews have cleared the new lift line, installed new night lights, poured concrete foundations, installed a new electrical drive, put the lift towers into place, and set up the new haul rope and communications line. Next up is building the new lift shacks.
The other T-Bar, Lift #1, needed extensive repairs. While that T-Bar is still functional, this lift is scheduled to be replaced within the next five years due to aging components. For now, the ski area is making repairs during this offseason. This surface lift services most of the advanced terrain at the ski area.
So far, the fundraiser for the new Lift 2 has raised nearly $ 1.85 million. They’re aiming to raise $2.25 million. You can help them out by Venmoing the Farmington Ski Club at @FSC_Titcomb.
