Incredible story out of New Zealand where a kite surfer out for a day on the water came across a barnacle covered surfboard and against all odds identified its owner, a surfer located 1,490 miles away across the Tasman Sea.
30-year-old Alvaro Bon was kitesurfing in Raglan Harbour on the North Island when he discovered the ramshackle board on a remote beach. He stashed it and returned days later to retrieve it before posting pictures of it on social media. He made sure to include close-ups of unique signature of the board’s designer in hopes that someone would recognize the detail and put him in touch with owner.
He was flooded with hundreds of comments and shares the post from the local surfing community. It didn’t take long before a friend of the boards owner saw the picture and immediately knew who it belonged to. Get this, the board had mistakenly fallen off a boat in Tasmania almost 18 months prior and had drifted approximately 1,500 miles before it was discovered.
Arrangements have been made to return the surfboard to its rightful owner who will hopefully buy a heavy duty leash before he hits the waves.
