Professional mountain biker Adolf Silva has confirmed that he suffered a serious spinal injury during Red Bull Rampage on Sunday, October 19th. Currently he has no sensation from the chest down, though it’s too early to know what it will look like in the future.
The 28-year-old crashed out while attempting a double backflip during his second run, ending with him landing directly on his head. He was airlifted off the mountain and after a delay the Red Bull announcers clarified that he was awake, alert, and talking with family. On Tuesday, October, 30th, Silva shared that he did suffer a lower back injury.
On Friday, October 24th, Road 2 Recovery, a non-profit designed for professionally licensed athletes after sustaining a career-ending injury, shared that Adolf has no sensation from the chest down. His recovery will likely be intense and expensive, requiring daily therapy, home adjustments, and ongoing medical support.
In order to support Silva through the process, the Road 2 Recovery Foundation has set up a financial assistance campaign to support all ongoing medical care, rehabilitation, and transport to Barcelona, where he’s from. Additionally the funds will go toward any adaptive home and vehicle modifications and specialized mobility equipment needed for his long-term quality of live and independence.
Donations to Adolf Silva’s campaign can be made at road2recovery.com. Our thoughts are with Silva and his family at this time. We’re wishing you a successful recovery!
