A pair of unprepared hikers were rescued near the Vista House on Breckenridge‘s Peak 8 in Colorado last week after a forecasted snow storm rolled through during their hike.
According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, deputies, along with the Summit County Rescue Group, responded to the call during the snowstorm. The pair was “completely unprepared for cold or wet conditions,” and they found themselves caught off guard by the forecasted storm.
Fortunately rescuers were able to drive a vehicle to their location and provide a ride back down the mountain. Neither hikers reported any sort of injuries.
Hiking in Colorado always comes with the risk of rapidly changing weather and temperatures. As such, it’s important that hikers hit the trail with the right gear including layers of clothing for the different potential weather conditions. Additionally, all hikers should carry the 10 essentials on any trip, whether it’s a simple day trip or a multi-day excursion.
