Early season skiing comes with its benefits and its downsides. Many people choose to forgo early season all together, waiting until late December or January to get on the slopes for the first time of the season. Others find positives in the early season, taking advantage of the often smaller crowds (though the lack of open lifts and trails can lead to some long waits) and minimal terrain to get in shape before the season really gets going.

Some resorts will start as early as late October depending on the year, while others may not open until late December or early January.
