Congratulations to DJ Habitaat who just released a video of the first-ever recorded DJ set on the summit of Half Dome inside Yosemite National Park.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports DJ Habitaat, whose real name is Tomas Wischerath, lugged all his recording gear to the top of the 8,800 elevation granite monolith with the help of his twin brother. Habitaat kept it quiet as set was recorded without speakers or amplification. It should be noted that NPS Management Policies states that the service will take action to prevent or minimize noise that affects the natural soundscapes or other park resources or values or that exceed levels acceptable for visitor use.

Habitaat grew up in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights and got the idea for the performance after seeing Half Dome from a plane and noting the opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of protecting and preserving public lands.

DJ Habitaat:

“Yes, I had to carry all that gear up to the top. Yes it was worth it! Remember – our national parks and wild places aren’t guaranteed to be here forever. Right now, powerful interests are pushing to sell off or weaken protections for the very lands that belong to all of us. These parks are more than scenery — they’re sacred spaces, homes for wildlife, and places where we can reconnect with ourselves and the earth. If you love places like Yosemite and want them to stay wild and accessible for future generations, please pay attention, speak up, and support the organizations working to defend them.”
