Cheers to Scottish professional BMX rider Kriss Kyle who just pulled off the world’s first jump over a speeding Formula 1 car. Kyle enlisted the help of fellow Scotsman, David Coulthard of Red Bull Racing to drive the RB7 championship winning car towards him and it couldn’t have gone smoother.
There was much more than bragging rights at stake in this high profile stunt as any minor miscalculation or mistiming could have led to serious injury or damage to the car which is estimated to cost over $10 million.
The 33 year old rider called the experience “one of the scariest things” he’s ever done and that is a strong statement given he has ridden in a skate bowl suspended under a hot air balloon suspended 2,000 above the ground.
While jumping off a knee high kicker ramp and hanging in the air may seem like a walk in the park, when the pressure is on even a routine trick can be nerve wracking. Just imagine how simple it is to walk a balance beam when its six inches off the ground vs 100 feet in the air. Hats off to Kyle for his ice cold execution under extreme pressure.
