Colorado’s Pueblo County Sheriff is reminding river floaters to take their tubes and all personal belongings with them after three abandoned tubes sparked a search operation in the Arkansas River.
The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services Division, volunteer Search and Rescue and Dive Teams, and the West Park Fire Department all responded to a report of three float tubes caught in a tree. Since they weren’t sure if someone was in the water, a thorough examination of the tubes and search of the surrounding riverbanks was completed.
After the search authorities were able to determine that the tubes were likely abandoned. Abandoned tubes pose serious hazards to boats and can harm local wildlife in addition to polluting popular waterways.
