New Zealand — The biggest changes at any ski resort in the Southern Hemisphere for the 2025 season are occurring at Cardrona.
For the 2025 ski season, Cardrona Alpine Resort is introducing the Soho Expansion, which will bring in 150 hectares of terrain along with a new six-pack chairlift. The other additions include a new T-Bar, along with a new lodge at the base area.
Today (technically last night for us in North America), Cardrona Alpine Resort debuted its new trail map. Designed by Rad Smith, the new map shows the new additions at the New Zealand ski resort.

Here’s their 2024 map for comparison, which was designed by James Niehues. With the new expansions (Willow’s was also a recent addition), Rad decided to go with a broader (a.k.a higher-up) perspective that puts all the terrain pods together on one map.

The main point of interest is Soho Basin, which will make its debut this winter. The map shows a range of intermediate, advanced, and expert terrain. I like how they picked the lift-line run to be Broadway, as it’s sure to be a great spot to watch for those who are riding the Soho Express. The new terrain pod will be serviced by a new Doppelmayr detachable high-speed six-pack chairlift.

It also shows how the new T-Bar will factor into things. It will give quick access to a few of Cardrona’s terrain parks and their racing trail.

Cardrona is set to open for the 2025 season on June 14th.

How many hogs heads is a 150 hectares? A lot?
