Beginning Tuesday, June 10, a parkwide fire ban will be implemented in Mount Rainier National Park. All campfires will be prohibited in addition to the ignition of wood, briquettes, or any fuel in fire pits, fire pans, and barbecue grills will not be allowed in order to reduce the risk of human-caused wildland fire.
The use of portable, petroleum fueled stoves, heating devices, and lanterns using bottled or liquified fuels are allowed as long as they can be turned off. Campfires are prohibited throughout the entire park, including in the White River Campground and Cougar Rock Campground.
“Current information and any subsequent updates on fire bans at Mount Rainier National Park will be posted on the alerts section of the park’s website. Campground information is posted on the park’s website.” – Mount Rainier National Park
An abundance of downed trees, high temperatures, and dry conditions led to the fire ban. It also supports regional incident management efforts by limiting the need for firefighting resources. The use of any kind of firework in any location on federal lands is always against the law. If you spot smoke or flames inside the park or on nearby lands, you’re asked to notify a ranger or call 911.
