Salida, Colorado — One of the biggest terrain expansions that will debut during the 2025-26 ski season will be at Monarch Mountain.
The 377-acre expansion into No Name Basin will add new intermediate and advanced trails and glades to the ski area. It will be serviced by a new Skytrac fixed-grip triple chairlift. In addition, the base area of No Name will feature a warming hut, vault toilets, and a ski patrol building.
Monarch has shared some updates on the project so far this offseason. The first few came in April, with crews clearing out snow in order to get more trees removed from the new terrain pod.
Monarch has also shared a few updates on the new lift, as Skytrac has begun to deliver parts for the project.
The latest update came yesterday, with them revealing their new trail map, along with the run and lift names in No Name Basin. They also revealed that there will be an uphill skiing route from this area. For the drawer of the new map, Monarch went with VistaMap due to the ability to easily update the map during future seasons, which is expected due to the need to remove beetle-kill trees.
In terms of the new lift name, Tomichi is named after a mining town in Colorado that became abandoned due to a large avalanche in 1884.
Monarch Mountain plans to keep guests posted on the expansion, as they are on track to open it during the 2025-26 season.
