An update from the National Park Service shared that the Eureka Fire burning in Joshua Tree National Park has reached 80% containment at 214 acres as of 6pm on Tuesday, June 3.

Suppression work continued on Tuesday, with crews extinguishing interior smoke and pulling hose line from the perimeter. Wednesday was set to include suppression repair from equipment operations. All non-local resources should be released by Thursday morning.

The cause of the Eureka Fire is currently under investigation. Until June 5th, 2025, temporary closure will include Lower Covington Flats Road and La Contenta within the Park boundary, backcountry camping in the zones covering Black Rock, Covington, Quail Wash, and Juniper, the California Riding and Hiking Trail starting in Black Rock, and the Creosote/Bigfoot Trail starting off Park Blvd in the park.

Fire safety and understanding what to do during a National Park is vital when visiting a National Park and while preparing your home. Learn more about fire safety in the desert here and more about fire safety at home and away here.

The National Park Service thanks all crews involved in fighting the fire including the Bureau of Land Management, Cal Fire, U.S. Forest Service, San Bernardino County Sheriffs and Fire Protection.
