Australia — After a forgettable past couple of winters, Australia’s ski industry is hoping to catch a break this ski season.

With King’s Weekend coming up in Australia, some ski resorts will be able to open for skiing and riding. Thanks to a cool stretch, along with snowfall this week, various ski resorts are aiming to open up this weekend. As of the time of this publication, two Australian ski resorts have definitive plans to open for skiing and riding this weekend: Mt. Buller and Thredbo.

Mt. Buller is planning to open on Saturday. They plan to have Bourke Street open, which is thanks to their diverse snowmaking network.

Thredbo Resort will also open on Saturday. They’ll have the Easy Does It Chairlift and Magic Carpets. While terrain will be limited to the Friday Flat trail, they’ll also have a pocket terrain park set up. Thredbo aims to open more terrain next week.

Ben Lomond is set to begin its winter season first, with its winter operations scheduled to start on June 6th. However, it’s uncertain whether they’ll have skiing or riding available yet on their opening day, or if it’ll just be snow play (sledding) available.

Other ski resorts are using these cold temperatures to make a snowmaking push and aim to open this weekend. This includes Perisher, Hotham Alpine Resort, and Falls Creek. Those Vail-owned ski resorts aim to open on June 7th, but official trail and lift lineups have yet to be announced.
