Professional skier and artist Chris Benchetler has been releasing near-weekly episodes of behind-the-scenes footage for his new project, Mountains of the Moon. The “Ship of Fools” series has covered everything from the mountain biking to the skiing to working with the Grateful Dead’s Mikey Hart and beyond.
The most recent episode of “Ship of Fools” was a gift for lover’s of Benchetler’s previous movie Fire on the Mountain. Rather than the typical 2-5 minute long episode, this one is a full 51 minutes focusing on the creation of the Grateful Dead & Chris Benchetler film that was released back in 2019. Primarily it focuses on the late basketball legend Bill Walton who narrated the original movie.
Bill Walton passed away a year ago on May 27, 2024. He played for the UCLA Bruins in college before making his way into the NBA, retiring on the Boston Celtics in 1987. He then made his way into sports broadcasting for multiple teams and networks. Walton was known to be a major fan of the Grateful Dead throughout his life, often being considered one of the biggest Dead Heads out there.
