Anchorage, Alaska — While it didn’t receive the most snowfall in Alaska this winter, Arctic Valley was once again the last ski area standing in the state.

On Saturday, Arctic Valley Ski Area concluded its 2024-25 season with a party. It wasn’t exactly smooth sailing this season, as the Alaska ski area had a later than usual opening. In addition, the ski area had to deal with heavy winds that led to damage to various parts of their infrastructure.

However, they still made it to May for the fifth ski season in a row, with a decent snowpack to boot. Closing day saw festivities like guests wearing Kentucky Derby and/or retro gear.

Located in Anchorage, Arctic Valley is one of the three ski areas that are situated closest to Alaska’s largest city, the other two being Hilltop Ski Area and Alyeska Resort. Arctic Valley has over 500 skiable acres with five lifts, one of which services a tubing park. The ski area is run as a non-profit, which means they fundraise for projects like the replacement of the T-Bar haul rope.

While the lifts have now closed for the 2024-25 season, uphill access remains open. However, it should be noted that backcountry conditions exist.
