Boyne, Michigan — After a warm 2023-24 season, the Midwest ski industry had a solid rebound season, with colder weather and some ski areas seeing lots of snow. As usual, though, the season has gradually wound down, with nearly every ski resort in the Midwest closing for the season. Except for one.
For months, Boyne Mountain worked on creating a snowmaking glacier on the Victor trail and the Ramshead Park. They even got a wiggle going! Boyne has two lifts, Victor and Ramshead, open for its late spring operations. A big reason why this is happening is thanks to Boyne snowmakers’ work in March, where they worked 30 hours to build up Victor. According to MLive.com, six of Boyne Mountain’s new Super PoleCat snowmaking guns helped create this behemoth. Boyne Mountain’s snow report from this past week stated that it had a maximum depth of 206 inches and an average depth of 96 inches this past weekend.
From here on out, Boyne Mountain is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those who have season passes at other ski areas in Michigan can buy lift tickets for only $25.
Boyne Mountain is aiming to make it to Memorial Day, but with this being the first time they’ve tried this out, we don’t really know how long they’ll make it. We’re hoping though that our friends in Michigan can ski for at least a few weekends in May.
