Mt. Washington, New Hampshire — This is shaping up to be a good week to ski Tuckerman Ravine. There’s been no recent snowfall, and the corn snow is slowly starting to pop.

So far this spring, we haven’t seen many videos of people sending it in Tuckerman Ravine, other than that one guy who tomahawked his way into another dimension. While scrolling through YouTube last night, I found a video report from this week that proves insightful.

Yesterday, YouTuber SpartanIIMark6 shared his trip to Tuckerman Ravine from April 21st. His video does show the risks of hiking the steep bowl, which included spotting a pretty deep glide crack on his hike up the Lip. I also appreciate how the video shows how tricky the steep climb can be, including the awkward moments of trying to bypass a slower party.

The snowpack still looks pretty deep, meaning the next few days are a prime time to visit. The only rough date this week appears to be Saturday, where lots of rain is expected.

A reminder that reaching Tuckerman Ravine is a hike, and you should bring the appropriate avalanche and backcountry gear with you. Bringing a buddy is also a good idea.
