Congratulations to snowboarder Zian Perrot-Couttet who opened a new line down the south side of Mont Blanc.
Still unnamed, the line is a succession of two couloirs on the famous Innominata Ridge of Mont Blanc that Zian and his crew linked together with two abseils of about 15meters each and a short section ascended with with crampons.
“On Wednesday, March 26th, we climbed up to the Monzino hut via the via ferrata. The following morning, we set off along the ridge of the Punta Innominata, just opposite the hut. The ascent was delicate, with fragile cornices and unstable rocks. We reached the summit of Punta Innominata, then descended via the North-East couloir, which leads down to the Frêney glacier. Once back down on the glacier, we climbed back up via a small couloir lower down to reach the Innominata col, before heading back down to the hut and finally reuniting with the pizzeria.”
If ever there was a well deserved aprés pizza party, it was after this incredible first descent. Well done Zian!
