The Imperial Superchair at Breckenridge is the highest chairlift in North America, stretching up to 12,840 feet above sea level.
The four-person chairlift has a vertical rise of 939 feet, bringing skiers and snowboarders into the resort’s high alpine terrain on Peak 8. From the top, visitors can hike further to reach above 13,000 feet, with the area’s highest in-bound point reaching 13,005 feet.
While high alpine terrain has been available at Breckenridge for a long while, it wasn’t until 2005 that guests could reach that high on a chairlift, unlocking easier access to both Peak 8 and Peak 7. Of course when the plans were first released there were a lot of people questioning whether or not it was even possible.
