Riding the Slide Brook Express.
Riding the Slide Brook Express.

There are some seriously long gondolas and trams out there. The Zlatibor Gold Gondola in Serbia is the longest in the world, stretching 5.6 miles long, with 72 10-seat gondola cabins transporting up to 800 passengers per hour, though its maximum capacity can fit 90 gondola cabins and 1000 passengers per hour.

But when it comes to actual detachable quad chairlifts, not gondolas or trams, there’s nothing quite as long as Sugarbush‘s Slide Brook Express Quad, the longest and fastest detachable quad in the world. Traveling between Lincoln Peak and Mt. Ellen, the chairlift stretches a total of 11,012 feet, or just over two miles.

Despite its length, Slide Brook Express takes just about 12 minutes to ride from one side to the other, a rather impressive speed for such a long chairlift. Still you’d better hope you have a good group of friends or family sharing the chair with you, otherwise you’re in it for the long haul with someone you might not want to spend all that time with.
