Alaska — As is usually the case, Alaska’s biggest ski resort is leading the pack for the most snowfall at a North American ski resort for the 2024-25 season.

Last week, Alyeska Resort announced that it had surpassed 600 inches of snowfall for the 2024-25 season. They followed it up today by surpassing 650 inches for the season overnight. As of Wednesday morning’s snow report, Alyeska has received 657 inches of snowfall for the season at the top of the Glacier Bowl Express (GBX) snow measuring station. They average 653 inches of snowfall at GBX, so they’re having an above-average season.

Ha! That was so three days ago.

These recent tallies included 32 inches in 48 hours, which led to some memorable face shots.

While Alyeska does lead the North American snow tally, there are some discrepancies in snow totals due to the ski resort’s unique elevation.

For example, the top of GBX currently has a snow depth of 180 inches, and the base area has a depth of 6 inches. Alyeska saw snow last night in the upper elevations, and rain at the base area. Overall, with it being much closer to sea level than other powder meccas, elevation does play a part in Alyeska’s snow totals across the mountain. This leads to memorable powder conditions in the Glacier Bowl Express and upper portions, as well as sometimes wetter conditions near the bottom.

As shown by the morning’s webcam, you can see some bare spots on the lower mountain.

Alyeska’s projected closing date is April 28th.
