Alberta — This upcoming offseason, Castle Mountain Resort will be installing its first high-speed chairlift.

Last year, Castle Mountain Resort announced that it would be retiring its cat-skiing operations. It its place will be a refurbished chairlift from a popular Canadian ski resort. The detachable high-speed quad chairlift comes from Banff Sunshine Village, where it served as the Angel Express. The new chairlift will have a vertical rise of 1805 feet, and a ride time of around six minutes. Cat-skiing just concluded its final season, closing for good on March 17th.

In honor of its long-time cat-skiing operation, the new chairlift will be called Stagecoach Express. The old venture was known as Stagecoach Cat Skiing, and it also honors the visionaries that helped build this ski resort on Mt. Haig.

Currently, Castle Mountain Resort is already a large ski resort, with 95+ trails, 6 lifts, and a vertical drop of 2854 feet. This expansion will grow the ski resort’s skiable acreage by more than 25%, with a mix of beginner, intermediate, and advanced trails and glades. The Stagecoach expansion is expected to make its debut during the 2025-26 season.
