Guy beautifully skis Corbet's Couloir.

Corbet’s Couloir at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort has earned a reputation as one of the most intimidating in-bounds ski runs in North America. Located beneath the resort’s iconic tram, the couloir combines steep terrain with a dramatic entrance that can look intimidating even to experienced skiers and snowboarders. According to Jackson Hole, Corbet’s can feature a drop of around 20 feet and a pitch reaching 50 degrees, depending on conditions. The resort recommends that only highly experienced skiers and riders attempt the run.

Those characteristics are enough to make Corbet’s a serious challenge under normal conditions. However, when the snow and terrain shape up in a particular way, the entrance can become even more intimidating. Sometimes Corbet’s Couloir winds up looking less like a conventional steep entrance and more like a nearly vertical wall, like we see in the video below. There is no obvious funky line or easy-looking entrance that allows the skier to gradually work into the couloir.

Instead, this skier is forced to face a massive drop directly into the narrow terrain below.

The specific conditions force some serious commitment, but it’s clearly nothing that this guy couldn’t handle. He drops it beautifully, and though we can’t see him clearly once he’s landed, it seems like he rips it with no trouble.

One Of Jackson Hole’s Most Famous Runs

Corbet’s is a challenge even for experienced skiers and recommends building the necessary skills before attempting it. For most skiers, watching someone drop into Corbet’s is probably a lot more approachable than doing it themselves.
