Greg Paquette at Tamarack Mountain.

Idaho skier Greg Paquette has probably skied more than you this season. What makes me so confident? Probably the fact that after 118 days on the snow he’s officially broken the 2 million vertical feet mark while skiing at Tamarack Resort, and the season isn’t even over yet.

This is not a world record by any means, but it is the first time someone has reached over the 2 million mark at Tamarack, a rather young resort that opened back in 2004. Greg can pretty much always be spotted in a red jacket and white helmet, and given that he’s been on the mountain for 118 days this season there’s a good chance you’ll spot him if you head to the mountain.

For reference, Tamarack features a vertical drop of 2,800 feet, meaning you’d have to ski from the top to the bottom of the mountain over 714 times to reach 2 million vertical feet, or complete a little over 6 full top-to-bottom runs every day for 118 days. Of course, the mountain likely wasn’t open top-to-bottom all 118 days of Greg’s skiing.

Tamarack sees an average snowfall of 300 inches on its 56 named runs. The resort is projected to close for the season on April 13, 2025.
