Gimbal God airs over the Goat Path @ Corbet's Couloir

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is home to what is widely considered one of the most challenging ski runs in the world. Its called Corbet’s Couloir and it has been a proving ground for generations of skiers and snowboarders looking to test their skills in the Tetons. Corbet’s features a 20-foot drop and 50-degree pitch making it one of the steepest and most intimidating ski slopes in North America.

Jackson Hole hosts an invite only contest called Kings & Queens of Corbet’s where the world’s best skiers and snowboarders drop into the run and a scored for their performance. This year’s event was predictably thrilling with high flying action from both the men’s and women’s field but there was snowboarder who decided to pump some low trajectory creativity into the mix.

Spencer “Spenny” Whiting (known as Gimbal God) took two unique lines that may not have earned him a position on the podium but ended up being crowd favorites. First he inched his way down narrow crack known as the “Tool Shed” and second he aired over the Goat Path. Great to see progression in amplitude and rotations but there is a lot to be said for an athlete like Spenny who raised the bar with creativity.
