The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) successfully located and arrested Maui based doctor Gerhardt Konig after he allegedly attempted to push his wife off a hiking trail and struck her in the head with a rock on Oahu.

The wife was transported to a hospital and is in critical condition. According the HPD, the man was located around 6:45pm on March 25 near Pali Highway, where he was arrested after a brief foot pursuit.

Local news station KITV reports that the original incident occurred on Monday, March 24, with officers responding to reports of a man beating a woman around 10:30am. The 36-year-old woman reported that her husband had attempted to push her off the trail before striking her in the head multiple times with a rock.

Koning, who practices anesthesiology in Kahului, has been suspended from the Medical Staff at Maui Health pending investigation. Charges in the case are currently pending.
