What do Big Bear Mountain Resort, June Mountain, and Mammoth Mountain all have in common? They all recently announced plans to stay open late into the spring, with two of them planning to stay open as late as possible!
June Mountain, who’s closing day was originally set for mid-April, has announced that they’ll be continuing their season until April 20th. Throughout early March, more than 40 inches of snow has fallen on the mountain, providing excellent conditions for some spring skiing.
A closing date at Big Bear Mountain Resort isn’t as certain as June Mountain. Snow Valley has seen 51 inches in March, while Snow Summit and Bear Mountain have seen 49 inches throughout the month. With that much snow, Big Bear will continue operations through April and keep things going as long as possible.
Meanwhile at Mammoth Mountain, when one season ends a new one begins. “Second Season“, as they call it, will keep skiers and snowboarders on snow until at least Memorial Day. With 60 inches of new snow falling throughout March so far, it’s entirely possible that their ski season keeps going deeper into the spring.
Mammoth Mountain has stayed open to skiers and snowboarders late into the summer in the past. During the 2022/23 season, Mammoth kept things running until August 6. Snowfall this season hasn’t quite matched up with the unbelievable snowfall they saw in 2023, but it’s always possible that summer skiing could go down at the California resort. We’ll just have to wait and see!
