Powder skiing at Telluride.

If you’re yet to get in an incredible day of powder skiing this year, you’d better think about finding your way to a resort in the coming few weeks. If meteorologist Chris Tomer’s snowfall forecast stands true, the mountains of the west are really about to learn the definition of Miracle March.

The period between today, March 10, and Sunday, March 16, looks to favor the Pacific Northwest down into California, with some areas set to receive over four feet of snow. Mammoth Mountain, Mt. Bachelor, and Timberline Lodge are all looking at around 40 inches of snowfall, while Heavenly could see 44 inches and Mount Shasta could see 56 inches.

Things still look good further east in the Rockies, with Idaho resorts like Schweitzer, Brundage, and Sun Valley looking at around two feet. Utah’s Wasatch resorts, specifically Alta, could see around 28 inches of snow. Meanwhile many mountains in Colorado are forecasted to receive around a foot throughout the period, with higher totals landing in the state’s western mountains.

A final storm system heading towards Colorado between the 16th and 18th could bring the state’s totals (between March 10 and March 18) near two feet through three storm systems. Steamboat and Snowmass are looking at between 18-24 inches, while Purgatory and Telluride could see anywhere between 24 and 36 inches of snowfall. If this weekend isn’t epic, next week sure will be.
