This kid decided to take the “Two Planker” nickname for skiers literally and attached binding to a set of 2x4s to ski at Hyland Hills Ski Area in Bloomington, Minnesota.
After a quick spin up the rope tow and an unsuccessful trip down the terrain park he headed to the base to apply some wax in hopes that he might get a bit more glide out his DIY setup.
It was there that he was met by resort staff who kindly pointed out the resort’s policy that all downhill skis must have metal edges and functioning brakes and let him know that he was free to enjoy the resort but not on raw lumber.
If you think that Hyland Hills was just giving this kid a hard time on some bogus made up rules you would be wrong. On their FAQs page they clearly state what equipment is allowed at the place for downhill skiing and snowboarding in the Twin Cities metro area and 2x4s do not qualify.
Hyland Hills Equipment Guidelines:
Downhill skis with metal edges and functioning brakes (or with leashes if telemark skis), and snowboards with metal edges and non-releasing bindings. We do not allow snow skates, ski bikes, sleds, snow scooters, cross-country skis or plastic snowboards on the hill.
