A hiker stranded high up on a ridge line was able to receive help after a passerby heard their yells from above in Nevada on Friday, February 14.

According to the Las Vegas Metro Police Department Search and Rescue, the passerby heard the stranded individual above a trail in Gateway Canyon, calling 911 for help. Rugged terrain and the fact that the victim was around 400′ above the trail meant an AIR1 helicopter was called in to conduct the rescue.

The victim was located and two SAR officers were inserted via hoist above the location. One of the officers was able to safely contact the uninjured victim with the help of an established lowering system.

With use of a lezard (a lanyard designed specifically for helivac at altitude), the victim was picked off via hoist and transported to a BLM Fire Station.
