We’ve all seen it. Someone fighting for their life to carry their skis from the car to the lift, shuttle, or lodge. It’s one of the easiest ways to find someone who doens’t know what they’re doing. Skis aren’t together, poles are dragging behind, they’re doing that half-squat waddle trying to keep everything from falling to the ground. It’s quite the scene, but it’s usually not that hard to fix.
Fortunately the Deer Valley Ski Patrol has provided a helpful guide on how to carry your skis. Skis over your shoulder, tips in your hand, tails behind. It’s not hard. Of course making sure the ski brakes prevent the top ski from sliding out is another added trick, but it’s not difficult to figure that one out.
Taking your skis off your shoulder in a crowded space is another important aspect. You don’t want to knock anyone on the head, potentially injuring and almost certainly angering. There are other, valid ways to carry your skis as well, just don’t be the dude rocking the Oklahoma Suitcase (is it convenient? maybe, but you look like an idiot).
