Richmond, Vermont — Based on glancing at it from I-89, Cochran’s Ski Area doesn’t appear like much. However, its history and the legendary skiing family that arose from there prove otherwise.

The Vermont ski area is full of historical significance. Cochran’s is home to the legendary Cochran family, which has produced various ski racers. Barbara Cochran won gold in the 1972 games in Sapporo. The latest accomplishment was from Ryan Cochran-Siegle, who got a silver medal at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.

Recently, Red Vault Productions released a short film documenting the importance of Cochran’s Friday Night Lights event.

Each Friday night, a family or business that frequents the ski area prepares a meal for a large group of people. The lights are turned on for night skiing, and practically the entire community shows up for laps on the surface lifts.

Lift tickets are only $5 on Friday nights, among the cheapest in Vermont. The mission of the ski area is to offer affordable skiing and riding to the community. With events like this, Cochran’s continues to accomplish its primary goal each winter.
