Auburn, Maine — A small Maine ski area has undergone several big changes this winter.
Yesterday, Lost Valley Ski Area hosted a grand opening ceremony for Chair 3. This double chairlift replaced the T-bar, which closed in the 2010s. This is the first lift built at Lost Valley since 1971.
While this terrain was serviceable from Chair One, it wasn’t open as often as other parts of the mountain because of a lack of night lights and snowmaking. Lost Valley put an extensive amount of money this offseason towards adding snowmaking and lights for night skiing to this area. The new-to-them chairlift was originally located at Mt. Southington in Connecticut, but it was removed as part of a chairlift replacement project for the 2023-24 season.
Also new at the ski area is another run. This past offseason, trail crews cleared out a new run that intersects the Logging Trail. Racoon is a black diamond run that winds through the trees before connecting with the Logging Trail and Chair 3. This was originally known as Ermine, a glade run that was on the trail map in prior seasons. It opened this past Saturday, giving Lost Valley skiers another reason to explore the left side of the ski area.
